Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked Japanese short grain rice (preferable fresh)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 GUSTA Vegan Dogs
  • 1 GUSTA Swisso Cheese, or appropriate amount
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 4 tbsp teriyaki sauce
  • 4 tbsp Japanese style vegan mayonnaise
  • 2 sheets of nori

Prep

Rolled up method
  1. Add salt to warmed rice and mix thoroughly. Taste and adjust the amount of salt.
  2. Cook the sausages over medium heat until slightly charred (about 1 minute on each side).
  3. Using cling wrap, place ⅔-1 cup of rice on top and gently press down with fingers forming a rectangle shape (slightly larger than the sausages). Place ¼ cup of shredded cabbage in the middle. Place one sausage on top and drizzle the mayo and teriyaki sauce over.
  4. Roll the rice up to cover and seal, using the cling wrap to help in the form of a burrito. Then wrap the nori around the rice.
  5. Pack for an on-the-go meal or serve immediately and enjoy! (Best served warm / warmed up).
Opened up method
  1. Add salt to warmed rice and mix thoroughly. Taste and adjust the amount of salt.
  2. Cook the sausages over medium heat until slightly charred (about 1 minute on each side).
  3. Using cling wrap, place ⅔ - 1 cup of cooked rice in the middle and gently, but tightly roll it into a cylinder (about the length of one of GUSTA Vegan Dog Sausage). Place on a sheet of nori. Cut the two sides that do not touch the rice. Take the two cut pieces of nori and wrap around the side of the rice. Then roll the larger piece of nori around the whole rice cylinder. Wrap with cling wrap and let it sit for about 3 minutes (it will soften the nori). Then cut down the middle of the rice ball and fill with cabbage, GUSTA Swisso cheese and place a sausage on top. Drizzle with teriyaki sauce and vegan Japanese mayonnaise. Serve and enjoy! (Best served warm / warmed up).
